My passions for creating is not only non-food, I also love to cook! During my studies I was real fanatic, me and my friends were famous for our garlic butter and sun-dried-tomato-butter variation!
A while ago I made sundries tomatoes myself, a real joy…waiting for hours and finally eating the result….yum… Would you like to try it yourself? Go back here.
But last weekend it was time again for a culinary explosion! One of my dear friends had her birthday weeks ago, and I didn’t attend at here party, but invited her over to my place. Together with another friend we’ve started at 10 o’clock sunday morning….and yes it was the night when the clock turned to summertime….
With our eyes half shut we went shopping and cooked and baked like mental!
Our pride was the cake. The original plan was to make a cakerol…very old-fashioned but quite a challenge to make. According to the following photo’s you can see we ended up choosing for the safe option and cut the cake and stack it, instead of rolling it and risking the cake break into little pieces…. Next time I will do it like this again, no risks and a great result! For the filling you can use whatever you fancy, we choose dark-chocolate-chocolate-paste and fresh raspberries, blueberry jam and fresh strawberries on top!
But this wasn’t the only thing we’ve made….!
Another challenge was to use fondant and create a layer of a cake. The perfect base for decoration. It was quite difficult I must say. This was the result.
Decorated cake hearts!
For the chocolate level, brownies couldn’t be ignored…so we’ve made them as well. Of course we also needed some savory items. For the good old sandwiches we used two types of bread to create a funny twist. One of my friends her favorite is stuffed eggs, so we could not miss them.
The last tip: add a cinnamon stick to your tea, it looks very….High tea!
We have had a great afternoon….
If you like to get the recipe for the cake base, let me know and I’ll send you the link (it’s a dutch website).
